Commerce Clause

Definition

The clause in the Constitution (Article I, Section 8, Clause 1) that gives Congress the power to regulate all business activities that cross state lines or affect more than one state or other nation. Here's a list of landmark Supreme Court cases dealing with the Commerce Clause. During the Civil Rights movement the United States Congress used the power of the Commerce Clause to pass laws such as the Civil Rights Act that fought discrimination.
